A large-scale sculpted ceramic wall relief incorporating painted images of life-size figures.
The work explores the concept of artistic creation. On the one hand, it refers to the 8th-century BCE Greek poet Hesiod, whose poem Works and Days opens with an invocation to the Muses. On the other, it echoes Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen’s 1807 relief The Dance of the Muses on Mount Helicon, adopting the poses of its figures.
In Calling the Muses 2026, twelve figures appear rooted in the past while simultaneously engaging with the present. One of them, holding a smartphone, connects this ancient scene of inspiration with the contemporary world, inviting viewers to reflect on the sources of artistic creation and the role of the Muse in the digital age.
